Baby shower questions for those who need to know...

If this is a first pregnancy, you will most likely have a few questions about the shower and how it is put together. Get ready for your special day by reading up on the most common baby shower questions mothers ask.

1. When are baby showers held?

Baby showers are typically held 1-2 months before the baby is due. It should to be held late enough in the pregnancy that there is a belly showing and early enough that there is less risk of an early arrival.

You can also have a shower after the baby is born, but make sure to wait a month or two to let the baby's immune system get strong enough for all of your visitors.

2. Where are baby showers held?

A baby shower is typically held at the home of the hostess, although it can also be held in many other locations. Some other locations to hold a shower could
be at a restaurant, community center, reception hall, local church or a park.

3. How long does a typical baby shower last?

A typical shower will last 2-3 hours.

4. Who pays for the baby shower?

The hostess is responsible to cover the costs of food, games, prizes and any favors involved with the shower.

5. Who is allowed the host the baby shower?

Anyone can host the baby shower, as long as it is not the mom or dad to be.

6. What if no one offers to host a shower for me? Can I ask someone to throw it?

This is a common baby shower question that is asked. It is not proper etiquette to ask someone to host your baby shower. It imposes on them the expectation of the costs, time, and a place for them to put it together.

This might be something that they were not wanting or willing to do for you. It also puts them in an awkward situation of hurting feelings by saying no.

There are still other options available to you if no one has offered to throw you a shower:

1.  Pass subtle hints to family and friends and see if they pick up on it.

2.  Throw a small party after the baby is born to introduce it to your family and friends. This party is not focused on gifts like the baby shower, but usually people will still bring gifts to celebrate the birth.

3.  Whether a shower has been held or not, people will often send gifts when the birth announcement has been sent out.

7. Are baby showers only held for the first child? Or are they allowed for a second, third or fourth child?

A baby shower is a celebration of new life and a chance for friends and family to gather together to show love for you and the new baby.

Although in the past it was looked upon as unfavorable to throw a shower for any child other than the first, baby showers are now welcomed for all children.

8. Can I help plan the shower? I would like to be involved in planning my shower, after all it is for me.

Your baby shower is a gift that your hostess is giving you. She is spending her time and money to throw you a great baby shower. You can offer help if it is needed, but anything beyond that is pushing baby shower etiquette.
If she needs your help she will ask for it.

9. What is a sprinkle?

A sprinkle is a shower in which guests shower the new mom with the necessities she needs for the new baby. It is not a full blown "shower", but just a light sprinkling of gifts. It is usually used for a second or third child when the mom already has the big items. A sprinkle baby shower helps the mom stock up on the little essentials that
run out easily with each child.

10. Can men invited to a baby shower?

Inviting men to baby showers are one of the new hot trends. It is a great way to let the new dad join in on the celebration.
