Three babies - not all at once!

(Ontario, Canada)

My first baby was born when I was 21 and my husband and I were so excited and really didn't know what to expect.

We lived in England and our son was delivered in a hospital by a midwife in January 1976 - the labour and delivery was easier than I had anticipated, although I did need a small episiotomy. Daniel was an easy baby, he nursed easily and was a contented child.

In 1977 we emigrated to Canada and made Ontario our home, where our daughter, Sarah was born in 1979. I delivered her about one week early and had a wonderful pregnancy and delivery. I realized that I was in labour during the evening of her birth, but because I had been having a lot of Braxton-Hicks contractions during the last few months of my pregnancy, I hadn't paid much attention to them during the afternoon.

Anyway, my hubby took me to the hospital as soon as I realized that I was in labour - around 10:20 at night. The nurse checked me out and when I asked her if she thought I would have the baby tonight, she said "Honey, you're going to have this baby any minute!" And she was right! I delivered Sarah at 11:18pm, just an hour after arriving at the hospital!

In 1992 when our children were in their early teens, by beloved husband died at the age of 40.

Three years later I re-married a lovely man who was also widowed young and had two children in their teens too.

In 1997, when I was 42 I gave birth to our daughter, Rebecca, who is now 10 years old. She is a delightful child with a wonderful sense of humour, a kind heart and we tell her that she is God's gift to us - and she truly is.

We often say it must be difficult to be a teen-ager who has to tell parents that they are pregnant - we were two parents who had to tell four teen-agers that WE were pregnant!

My pregnancy with her was a little different because of my advanced age(!) and the fact that my last child was 17 years old. My waters broke in the middle of the night and my hubby and I giggled all the way to the hospital, where I delivered fairly easily without an anesthetic.

She arrived safely 10 days early and was an easy baby who nursed for almost 2 years.

Our children are now 31, 30, 28, 27 and 10 and we also have three grand-daughters.

I enjoyed all my babies and now am enjoying my grand-babies too!
