Pregnant While Breast Feeding

Many breastfeeding moms never intended to be pregnant while breast feeding. However, many of us know that sometimes babies are conceived at unexpected times!

Some moms do not plan the pregnancy...but it happens. Other moms just don't worry about getting pregnant and assume it is unlikely or even impossible while breastfeeding…but they find themselves pregnant again. Many other women actually plan a pregnancy to make sure their children are close in age.

No matter what the situation, these moms all find themselves in the situation of nursing while pregnant.

Is it safe?

Throughout much of the world, pregnancy and breastfeeding at the same time is a common occurrence. A mother can maintain a good breastfeeding relationship with her child without risk to the health of her new baby who is growing inside her.
According research, a mother who is getting the proper nutrition should have absolutely no trouble providing for both her unborn baby and the nursing child. However, if a child is younger than one year, it is important to watch your child's weight gain and provide additional solid food.

What to Remember

Breastfeeding during pregnancy will probably provide your last chances to sit alone with your breastfeeding child before you have to divide your time between him and the new baby. Enjoy this time and don't rush to wean...letting your sweet baby nurse will reassure your child that, although there is a new baby coming, you still want what is best for him.
