Pregnancy Stretch Marks

Having pregnancy stretch marks are an inherited tendancy. If your mom had stretch marks, chances are you will too.
The areas that are affected especially in pregnancy are the be belly, breasts, buttocks, thighs, and waist. It's because these area’s tend to gain the most in fat and weight.

Stretch marks appear when the skin is stretched beyond it's elastic limit. They first appear to be deep purple ridges, but later (months or years) they will fade to a silvery white. Just like the tendency to get them is inherited, the tendency to not get seems also linked with hereditary. So take a good look at your mother is you want to know how you will most likely react to pregnancy.

One of the biggest questions from pregnant moms are "Is there a way to prevent pregnancy stretch marks?" Many creams and lotions "claim" to be able to prevent these, but the truth of the claim is a matter of opinion. The idea behind the treatments is to keep the skin hydrated. By doing this it may help aid in the skins ability to stretch without tearing. The only way to know for sure if these actually work for you is to try them out and see.

Proper nutrition will keep you healthy and at a healthy weight. By maintaining the proper weight gain during pregnancy you lessen the chance of getting stretch marks. Also stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water, which keeps the skin hydrated and supple.

Being pregnant for more than one time increases the chances of stretch marks. The skin has been stretched out before, so it is more apt to start showing the little tears that turn into full-blown stretch marks. When you discover you're pregnant again start right away with the good diet, drinking water and using creams and lotions to help prevent further marking.

Even doing all the above things may not fully prevent the stretch marks. If they bother you to the point that you want to do something to get rid of them you do have a few options. Lasers can remove them, as can tummy tucks - lifts. You will need to seek the advice of your physician for these procedures.

Most pregnant women will experience a stretch mark or two somewhere on their body. Consider it a rite of passage into motherhood. You can do some of the things mentioned above to help prevent them, but nothing is a guarantee. Pregnancy stretch marks are, for most women, a part of life if you choose to have babies.
