Fertility Years

In this day and age your fertility years doesn’t have to be limited. There are many things you can do to optimize your chance of conception occurring. There’s no reason why a woman today can’t have some 30 -odd years of being able to conceive a child. (That’s not to say that you need to try to have a baby a year – that means that you have plenty of time to decide when to have children, even if you are over the age of 35).

The best thing you can do to start off on the right foot is to chart your fertility signs. Charting is a fast and effective way of pinpointing ovulation and to help you discover infertility too. But learning to chart effectively can take a couple of months. See my articles….

Cervical Fluid
Cervical Position

Although charting your fertility signs is a valuable - you don’t have to do it to become pregnant. Below are some tips to help increase the odds of getting pregnant no matter where you are in your fertility years.

HER

B6 (vitamin) in a dosage of at least 50 mg per day will help to regulate the reproductive hormones. It will help to lengthen and regulate the luteal phase (the time from ovulation to menstruation). It helps to balance the blood sugars. B6 also alleviates morning sickness during pregnancy.

E vitamins help to build a strong immune system which in turn helps to start and maintain a healthy pregnancy.

Fertility herbs such as evening primrose oil and vitex also help to regulate the reproductive hormones. Fertility herbs need to be taken with caution – as most should only be taken from menstruation to ovulation. Read the labels and discuss any supplement with your healthcare provider.

Prenatal vitamins contain an optimal level of nutrients that will help to prepare the body for pregnancy and then helps to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Folic acid, which is in most all prenatal vitamins, is extremely important in helping to prevent certain neural tube defects with the baby. It’s very important to be taking prenatal vitamins before pregnancy occurs.

Progesterone cream used after ovulation has been confirmed helps to balance the reproductive hormones. It helps to maintain a healthy pregnancy by building up a strong uterine lining. In some cases it can aid in the prevention of miscarriages and preterm labor – where low progesterone could be a problem

Tea, either orange pekoe (regular) or green tea are excellent fertility enhancers. Tea contains a high level of antioxidants which boosts the immune system. Recent studies show that tea increases fertility in some women. It’s best to drink decafe tea. And as a side note – I drank regular decafe ice tea each time I’ve conceived a baby!

Vitamins C and E and garlic help to produce healthy sperm.

Wearing loose fitting underpants and steering clear of hot tubs also helps to keep the testicles nice and cool – which helps to produce healthy sperm.

Drink plenty of water. It’s one of nature’s best cleansing liquids for the body. Because our bodies are made primarily of water, drinking plenty of it replenishes it throughout the day and keeps us from dehydrating.

Most importantly, relax and enjoy this journey. It should be a fun journey. Stress causes us all sorts of problems and can hinder ovulation and decrease the sperm count. Deal with stressful situations in moderation. Your fertility years can be a great time as you journey down the pathway to parenthood.
