Is there such a thing as fertility magic to help you conceive the baby you want? I'm sure if you've been on this journey of trying to conceive for a while you are willing to just about try anything to make conception happen.

Through the years there have been many things said about conceiving a baby and in particular in conceiving a girl or a boy. A lot of it is considered old wives tales. That doesn't mean there's not some truth to it, I'm sure there's somebody somewhere that conceived exactly what they wanted when trying the different methods. I'll leave the validity and accuracy of the tales or "magic" up to you.

The most popular use of magic or old wives tales is the gender producing ones - to help you conceive a boy or girl. Below is a list of the tales I've run across:

To Conceive a Boy

• Allow your husband to seduce you first
• Be a worrywart
• Dad needs to drink a lot of soda
• Eat red meat and salty snacks
• Have sex at night
• Have sex on the odd days of the month
• Have sex while in the standing position
• Have sex when there is a quarter moon
• Have sex while on your belly and husband on your back
• Let your husband orgasm first
• Point your head to the north during sex
• Sleep to the left side of your husband
• Stay on your back after sex to give the male sperm a chance to reach the egg first
• Warm his testicles

To Conceive a Girl

• Both eat fish and vegetables
• Eat chocolate
• Have sex during a full moon
• Have sex in the afternoon
• Have sex with him on top
• Have sex with you on top (got this wives tale from another source!)
• Seduce your husband
• Stay calm and cool
• You orgasm first and think pink

Okay, so you got all that? You want a boy - you need to let your husband seduce you during a dinner of red meat and pretzels with sodas to drink. It has to be on an odd day of the month with a quarter moon. You need to stand up while having sex - then have sex again with you on your back. Make sure he reaches orgasm first and by all means worry about it. Then when you sleep make sure you are to the left of him!

If you want a girl you need to seduce him on the full moon on an even day - in the afternoon. Make sure you have fish and vegetables for lunch and a dessert of chocolate. Then have sex with you on top, then with him on top. You reach orgasm first, and by all means stay calm. And think pink! All fertility magic!

I think you get the point. All this is tongue-in-cheek. A humorous look at fertility magic and old wives tales. Nothing is a guarantee, even if you follow the serious methods. Ultimately the sperm has to meet the egg - and it doesn't matter how it got there. My best advice: Relax and enjoy the journey and allow nature to take place.
