Is it necessary to take a fertility herb vitamin while trying to conceive? Yes, I believe it is highly beneficial. This is also known as a prenatal vitamin or pregnancy vitamins. These can be taken before pregnancy and are referred to as fertility vitamins. It's so important to take this vitamin everyday because of the way most of us eat. Fast foods and convenient foods have very little nutritional value. When making a baby it's so important to have that proper nutrition and the vitamin will help to put the nutrition back into our bodies.
It is best to start taking a prenatal vitamin before you get pregnant. This is because one of the most important nutrients you need is in most all prenatal vitamins, folic acid. Folic acid has been shown to help prevent a folic acid deficiency that can cause a certain neuro tube birth defects in the baby.
Folic acid is found in beans, cereals, enriched grain products, green leafy vegetables and orange juice. But do you eat enough of these to gain the folic acid necessary to protect the baby? Probably not, so this is why it's so important to take a prenatal vitamin with folic acid already in it. Unless you are super healthy and eat right all the time, you probably need a good prenatal vitamin.
The March of Dimes has stated that the synthetic form of folic acid as found in a supplemental vitamin is more easily absorbed than the natural form. Check out modimes.org for more details on this.
There are many different brands of prenatal vitamins on the market. Ask your physician which one would be best for you. Some can be bought over the counter and some are prescribed. The most important thing is to pick a vitamin that has at least 400 mcg of folic acid in each dose. Many fertility and prenatal vitamins have upwards of 800 to 1000 mcg per dose.

Aside from the folic acid, most prenatal and fertility vitamins will have a well-rounded amount of the other essential nutrients needed to start and maintain a pregnancy. Some will have herbs in the ingredients that will enhance fertility and/or help keep a pregnancy healthy. Make sure that the herbs are safe to take during pregnancy.
Even if you are just trying to conceive, be smart and get a good fertility herb vitamin or prenatal vitamin. Ask your physician about what brand is best for you. This will give your pregnancy the best start by being in the habit of taking the vitamin daily before conception happens.
