Conceiving After The Depo Provera Shot

You may need fertility help and may need to seek for infertility treatments if you've ever had the Depo Provera shot. In my research I have found that the birth control shot Depo Provera causes more problems for women who wish to conceive after having the shot. Depo Provera is given via a shot in the arm 4 times a year. It stops the ovaries from producing and releasing eggs. Many physicians claim the shot is safe and effective and not harmful to the reproductive system.

Just because you have to get the shot every three months does not mean that fertility will be restored within 3 months. In fact most women take 18 months or longer to conceive once they stop the shot. Even if conception occurs in a shorter time frame – the chances of early miscarriage are a lot higher due to the imbalance in the reproductive hormones. If conception does occur right after the shot it can cause birth defects in the baby. This is why a pregnancy test is given prior to administering the shot.

The Depo shot has a long list of adverse reactions:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Acne
  • Arthralgia
  • Asthenia (fatigue and weakness)
  • Backache
  • Bloating
  • Breast pain
  • Depression
  • Dizziness
  • Decreased Libido
  • Edema
  • Headaches
  • Hot Flashes
  • Insomnia
  • Leg Cramps
  • Luekorrhea
  • Nausea
  • Nervousness
  • No hair growth
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Rash
  • Vaginitis

The most experienced side-effect is depression. Depression can be so severe that anti-depressants are prescribed. This is detrimental because the shot is what’s causing the depression and the best way to alleviate it is by stopping the shot. Taking anti-depressants are like putting a band aid on a cancer. It may cover the problem a bit, but it's still very much there. Depression is just one of the many horrible side effects that tend to snowball with continued use.

The best way to begin receiving fertility help is to completely stop receiving the Depo shots. If it's been 6 months or less since you received you last shot, I recommend you give your body a couple of months to clear out the chemicals. You can help it along by doing a colon and/or a liver cleanse. These cleanses take about a month. They are a series of herbs and vitamins meant to clean out the toxins that are in your body.

Another effective way of helping to cleanse the body of impurities is to drink plenty of water. Water by nature is the best purifier if you drink 8 to 10 glasses per day. Water is a natural fertility booster as well, as it helps to increase the fertile-quality cervical fluid.

Other good supplements to take to help balance the reproductive hormones are: evening primrose oil and vitex – taken the first half of the cycle, natural progesterone cream taken the 2nd half and vitamin B6 (at least 50 mg) taken all cycle. Vitamin B6 and fertility go hand in hand.

Don't take my word for any of this - research about the adverse reactions to the Depo shot and many women need to receive fertility help after having the shot. Always seek the advice and care of your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any routine.
